Oil and Gas Commission Governance Change Initiative: September, 2005 - February, 2006

We designed an employee involvement program intended to maximize the engagement of all staff in the governance changes facing the Commission. We were to ensure effective two-way communication occurred as staff considered the impacts of the proposed governance transition. Management also wanted to “harvest” staff ideas on how the working environment could be enhanced as OGC moved forward and considered different governance models. We created a Staff Engagement Team (SET) consisting of a cross section of employees who over saw the creation of staff information forums and an interactive web site where employees could search for answers to their concerns and obtain answers regarding the proposed governance model. The forum format encouraged employees to provide their ideas on improving the working environment under a new corporate governance model.

We synthesized nine challenge areas that employees identified during the employee information sessions. We encouraged SET to use working groups to identify action plans to begin work on the top three priority challenges.

"Ian and Ed shared their with us their considerable experience working with employees in other organizations that have faced significant change. A job well done!!"

Derek Doyle, Commissioner, OGC
"I found it informative. Liked the idea that Ian and Ed are not here to sell us on this idea."

"The flow of session was good. There was a lot of information but it was good information."

"It is great to have time to listen to the comments and concerns of others in the organization."

"Was helpful in clarifying and answering all questions. I have a better understanding of what’s being proposed and how it will affect me."
